Then join Abendmusik for our annual community Summer Sing!

There are no auditions or extensive commitments.


Just come as you are to Lincoln's First-Plymouth Church at 7:00 on Wednesday, August 1 and within two hours,

we will have shared in an energized rehearsal and 'instant performance' of Johannes Brahms' German Requiem.

Music will be provided. Hospitality, air-conditioning, and fun are all included-- FREE!

No sign-up necessary. Just come ready to sing!

OLLI is joining with Abendmusik to enhance the experience of their annual community Summer Sing! This year featuring Johannes Brahms' German Requiem.  On Wednesday, July 25, OLLI members will have an exclusive lesson with Pamela Starr, UNL professor of Music History. The lesson will include a history of Brahms and his Ein deutsches Requiem, along with some musical analysis. Then, on Wednesday, August 1, Pamela Starr and Tom Trenney, artistic director of Abendmusik and First- Plymouth Church’s Minister of Music, will share in a pre-Summer Sing reception with an exclusive question and answer period about Brahms, the German Requiem,  Abendmusik and the Summer Sing!

This incredible showcase of young talent will feature three of Nebraska’s finest high school choirs and musicians from Lincoln’s high school orchestras, each accompanied by professional soloists and instrumentalists.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s noble Coronation Mass will be conducted by our distinguished guest clinician, William Weinert, from the famed Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Since 1994, William Weinert has served as Professor of Conducting and Director of Choral Activities at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, where he conducts the Eastman Chorale and the Eastman-Rochester Chorus and supervises the masters and doctoral programs in choral conducting.  He has conducted throughout Europe, United States, and the Far East, and has served throughout the country as a clinician and an adjudicator, as well as giving conducting master classes in North America, Europe and Asia. Ensembles under Weinert’s direction have performed at conferences of the American Choral Directors’ Association, National Collegiate Choral Organization, and Music Educators’ National Conference, and he has conducted master classes and honor choruses at these conferences as well.

The 2018 Abendmusik Children's Choir Festival will be in collaboration with Sing Around Nebraska.


Over 100 children from the Lincoln area will gather together to sing a toe-tapping and heart-warming program, led by nationally-renowned guest conductor, Emily Ellsworth.

Sing Around Nebraska is a powerful choral opportunity for students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to foster their love of singing!  This year’s Festival Choir will be held at more than 10 locations across our state, including Abendmusik at First-Plymouth.

Emily Ellsworth, 2018 Guest clinician

Nationally recognized as a leader in the youth choral field, Ms. Ellsworth has served as Artistic Director of ANIMA- Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus since1996. She shares her passion for young people and their infinite potential as a guest conductor throughout the US. 

She has prepared various ensembles for performances with Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, Ravinia Festival, Grant Park Symphony, Music of the Baroque, and others; nine CD recordings; national and regional conferences of ACDA, Kodaly educators, and Chorus America; and concert tours to six continents. Ms. Ellsworth has served on the music panel for the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. and is the advisor of Boosey & Hawkes’ Opera Workshop series. In frequent demand as guest clinician/conductor throughout the U.S., she has also guest conducted in the Republic of Ireland, England, Hong Kong, and Brazil.
